Cats and dogs

Pet owners are usually divided into a cat person and a dog person, but there is a small third group. Those are people who like both and want to keep and a cat and a dog in their home. Having both pets is possible, but you must make certain adjustments in order to make a healthy pet environment. According to Isabelle Hamel from North Shore Animal League America, cats and dogs can live in the same house without problems. In fact, they can have a happy life together.

The first thing you will have to do is to make a ‘’safe heaven’’ for your cat. This is a place that will be inaccessible to a dog, but it will provide everything your cat needs. This includes bed, water and food. Just make a small room so a cat can get inside but a dog can’t. This is even more effective if you introduce a cat and a dog when they are young. At that time, they are flexible and curious, so they will become friends.

You will have to control your dog. This means you must use light tether attached to the collar on your dog while he is in the house. A dog will think that he is free, but you can control him when needed. Chasing, yelling and grabbing isn’t effective way to control a dog. Because a dog will chew a tether, soak it into bad-tasting mouthwash. As a dog and a cat become close friends, cut the cord shorter until you are sure that you can remove it.

Depending on a dog and a cat you want to keep in a house, you must research for what tasks those animals were bred for.
